Another first here at b5 Media. We’ve had a blog marriage. I’m sorry you weren’t all invited to the ceremony, but it happened so fast that it was more like a shotgun elopment.
Some of you may have noticed that Secure That Computer has lain dormant for a few weeks. Carl Vancil has left b5 and while we sorely miss him, the beat must go on. Aaron Brazell and I (can you spot the link?) got to talking and we decided that since Secure That Computer and That Damn PC were so close in topic, that we should investigate how to amalgamate them. I then went outside to pick up my morning paper and when I came back in Aaron had whipped up the code, done a proof of concept, filed the paperwork in triplicate with the blog marriage office and had married them off.
Whoa…my head is spinning.
So please, come and check the new and fatter That Damn PC.

Thanks, Jon. Actually, Matt wrote the code and I ported it to what we needed. But yeah, I’ll be pointing out all of Carl’s older stuff for my readers.
bigger, fatter, better! :)
[…] b5media was proud today to announce what appears to be a shotgun wedding of two blogs, Secure that Computer and That Damn PC which means all the content will now be as That Damn PC […]
Totally fatter…
Why does the footer of almost every blog you run, including the one talked about here, look like crap?
The That Damn PC footer is repeated twice, once with invisible words because the colors are all messed up (links are the same color as the background — possible SE penalties?).
On this very page, the footer’s got ancient-looking unstyled horizontal rules, three different font sizes, and extends one line past the layout.
These bugs bug me :)
We did that on purpose. We held a focus group to see how we could piss Dan off the most :)
Ok, seriously - I never noticed. The footer problem certainly isn’t on *all* of our blogs, but I can’t deny that TDPC sure looks crappy, although I don’t see anything wrong with this one. I use Konqueror though, so my mileage frequently varies.
We fixey. Thanks for the heads up!
Dan–
Yeah we have a version 1 template on almost all of our blogs that was created quickly to get b5media off the ground. It was always intended to be temporary and became much more permanent. However, our version 2 templates are beginning to roll out on a spattering of blogs and will continue to do so.
I was not even aware of the TDPC problem and I’ll take responsibility for it. Oops. Will fix soon. Thanks for pointing it out.
Sounds good. :)
I browse with Firefox 1.5 btw. Was happy to see it preinstalled at work!
