Two New Sports Blogs are Launched

The sports channel has begun its life with a bang (something I’m very proud of) but yet, we can’t just sit back and bask in the glow of the Olympic torch.

Instead, we must plod on and with that, I’m excited to launch two new blogs to add to our channel.

Squib Kick

Wikipedia defines a squib kick as:

A Squib kick is a term used in American football to describe a short, low, line drive kickoff that usually bounces around on the ground before it can be picked up by a member of the receiving team.

The ball is kicked so short that it forces the receiving team’s slower players to recover the ball first instead of their faster kick returner. Secondly, the bouncing ball may be harder for the receiving team to pick up, allowing more time for kicking team members to get downfield to surround the ball carrier.

Squib Kicks are perhaps one of the best tricks in the game (minus that of a flea flicker where the quarterback hands the ball off to the running back as in a run play who then, after fooling the defense into believing the play is a running play, laterals the ball back to the quarterback for a deep pass).

Jesse approached us awhile ago, (before Christmas actually!), about doing an NFL blog called Squib Kick for b5media. While I was not in the picture at the time, I am excited to finally launch this blog because football is my favorite sport. We’re through with the season for another 8 months or so, but the draft and offseason trades will surely provide plenty of material for a long time to come.

Ladies Court

Likewise, our resident graphics diva and Puerto Rican French Riviera livin’ goddess, Ingrid Diaz is excited about Ladies’ Court, a blog all about Ladies Tennis.

There’s some exciting matches coming up and some exciting personalities as well. Then there’s the Maria Sharapova on Sports Illustrated thing that guys will enjoy too… at least for a few minutes!

Welcome Ingrid and Jesse. Thanks for being the first two of many solo bloggers in the Sports Channel!

[…] Though they recently announced the launch of two new sports blogs, you have to ask - who cares? Do we need two sports blogs from authors that nobody knows? While I wish them the best of luck, without shaking things up a bit I see them as also-run, at best. Filed under: Technology, Professional — […]
