My name is Tracee Sioux (pron. Sue) and I’m the new writer of BlogFabulous.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. My background is in journalism. I first worked as a staff reporter for small newspapers. I was lucky enough to work for newspapers that couldn’t afford photographers so I learned to be a photo-journalist as well. I also had the opportunity to learn to design the pages.
I moved to New York in 2000, where I worked for a travel trade magazine and freelanced for a recreational trade online magazine. I have authored six children’s history books and currently have another children’s book out for review, hopefully and expectantly waiting for an acceptance letter.
I currently write So Sioux Me, a blog inspiring mothers to empower their daughters. I’m very concerned about the messages we feed our girls about their selves and their worth, the intention of my columns is to explore more empowering messages in practical ways. You can read my work at www.traceesioux.blogspot.com . Along the same lines I volunteer as a mentor for at-risk teenage girls and I volunteer at a local youth outreach program.
My original passions are women’s issues and that’s where BlogFabulous www.blogfabulous.com fits in. I agree with Naomi Wolf, a mother who radiates self-love and self-worth vaccinates her daughter against a low self-esteem. I think it’s time for all women (a mother or not) to reexamine the messages we feed ourselves about our own self-worth. When WE figure it out, then the next generation of girls will find it easier to follow in our footsteps.
My intention is to be positive and only complain about a problem when I have a potential solution to offer. I’m just not into apathy, I want to be able to DO something to make the planet a better place.
I have been married for six years and my husband is in corporate communications. We now live in East Texas due to the convenient proximity to family. I’ll remain vague about where in East Texas because I do write about my kids and post their photos occasionally.
I have a five-year-old daughter named Ainsley. She serves as my muse and offers insight into my own girlness. I also have a one-year-old son named Zackary Elliott Cole (we thought it would look great on future letterhead) who is the quintessential Buddha baby.
