Whoo. It’s taken nearly 4 months, but we’re now able to unveil the first steps in a new partnership that we at b5 are very, very excited about. Before we get into that, though, we want to talk about what we see happening in the “blog media” space and how this news relates to it.
Background
Blog content on blog media properties is often inwardly focussed. Launch a blog, find great authors, and write your heart out. While that’s a great model, there is so much that it simply can’t cover. In addition, this inward-focusedness often means that blogs aren’t quite as mainstream-friendly as they could be.
Which is why we are excited by some of the new partnership opportunities coming up with mainstream media companies. These companies are acutely aware of the power of blogs, fan sites and communities, but are often unable to tap into them directly for a variety of reasons.
On to the news.
VIP Fan Clubs Co-Branded Blogs
As of today, we are partnering with VIP Fan Clubs to produce co-branded blogs for Fox Media’s TV shows. The initial test run is just 4 shows, but we are confident that the initial 4 will let us figure out the best way to cross-promote the blogs from both sides of this deal.
The point is to provide high quality daily content for passionate fans of the shows. Inside information. Exclusive deals. Discounts on merchandise. The whole 9 yards.
The first 4 shows are 24, Bones, Prison Break and Family Guy. Here are the blogs:
24 Headquarters: Cut loose. Break free. Fly the coop. Cut and run. Make a getaway.Escape. Whatever you call it, it’s the hot theme of the day. 24 Headquarters is your escape from boredom and the best place to dig into everything about the hit show 24. 24 Headquarters will tell you everything you didn’t know about 24. From hidden clues to show stopping moments. Look to this blog also for all the latest gossip onKiefer Sutherland,Elisha Cuthbert and the rest of the cast. By Leora Zellman.
Prison Break Buff: You’ve got yourself into VIP Fan Clubs just like Michael Scofield got into Fox River prison: with a mission. You’re a hard core fan of the hit Fox Network TV show Prison Break and are on a mission to find all the latest news and gossip. Well, look no further. Click over to Prison Break Buff - the number one source for everything Prison Break. From interviews to show spoilers, to all the latest on Wentworth Miller, this blog will turn you into an expert. Written by Patrick Quek and Nikki Katz.
Stewies Playground: Family Guy would be nothing without Stewie. Stewie is the G*d of cartoon characters. We play around with Stewie as he plots to kill Lois or goes on another adventure with Brian. We laugh at Peter’s drunk and naked fiascos and poke fun at the latest blunder of Meg. Stewie’s Playground is a blog for all Family Guy fanatics. It’s got show outlines, the best pictures, and great behind-the-scenes dirt on television’s best cartoon family. Written by Wendy Boswell.
Searching Bones: Uncovering the mysteries that are buried with the dead is only a walk in the park for Temperance Brennan - Bones. Whether you want to dig around the mysteries between Brennan and Booth or to find out the truth about Dr. Brennan’s family, Searching Bones will keep you up to date. By Leora Zellman and Arieanna Schweber.
Thank You, Danke, Edelweiss
While some might argue that 4 blogs is a small project (and in some ways they’d be right), we believe it also has fundamental importance as a testing ground for how “media 1.0″ and “media 2.0″ interact. We don’t know if it will be a success, but that’s kind of the point.
Besides, even if all we accomplish is to launch another set of blogs that appeal to fans of shows, drive great traffic and have great interactivity … Well, it would be hard to call that a “failure”. We hope you’ll join in the discussion on any shows you feel passionate about and, hey, if you have a Fox show that you’re just drop dead crazy about drop us a line. If this experiment succeeds we’ll likely be looking to do about a dozen more blogs!

Hey, that’s a very tasty deal, Jeremy. Congratulations. Are you dealing direct with Fox or their PR company?
I agree there are lots of opportunities out there for intermixing between MSM and New Media. We recently had a shot at this through the Peaceful Warrior movie, but I got in a little late, after the main parameters were set.
I hope this works out for you. At the very least it will alert other mainstream companies to the advantages offered by collaboration with blog networks.

Wentworth Miller
1. If Wentworth wasn’t on Prison Break, would you still be interested?
Yes!!!! Can I be honest really quick, I’ve never seen the show. Just recently I’ve seen clips of it, but I haven’t sat down and watched an episode. I’m actually going to do that when the DVD comes out (Aug 8). That way I won’t have to wait until the following week and die with all the cliff hangers. Well that is until the season finale to Season One DVD, and the following season begins (Aug 21).
But, YES, I would for sure be interested. Celebrity status doesn’t impress me, after all actors/actresses are human being with a talent for acting, thats all. I get interested when I get to know or see their personalities. Like with Went, I watched interviews and read articles on him, that’s how I got to know him and became interested in him. I was inspired, but I was also impressed by his charm, intelligence, ambition, determination, and mannerism. That is what caught my attention. Don’t get me wrong, Went is a hottie, but that is not what caught my eye.
2. If you had the chance to meet Went, what would you say?
Hello (smile). Have a minute? No? Call me when you do (then slip him my number).
3. In regards to question 2, How would you act?
I’m a pretty confident person, so I’d be myself. I usually get people’s attention just being me (outgoing, sweet and sincere). So, if I wanted to get Went’s attention, I would just be me, and smile. I’d probably be a little nervous at first, but as soon as I got comfy (which wouldn’t take long), I’d be great.
4. If you and Went got to hang out all day, what would you do?
I’d want to get away. I could imagine what it’s like for Went being such a private person, being hounded by people 24-7 (paparazzi, etc.) must get pretty annoying. So, I would imagine he would want to be alone, and away from the crowds. That is exactly what we would do. Go to like a private Palm Springs resort, I would check us in of course, and request complete privacy (have them sign a contract at that). We’d get pampered with massages (facials, body wraps, pedicures, whatever, just pampered), lounge around the pool, enjoy some quite time in the Jacuzzi, have a romantic candlelit dinner, (or just room service on the bed), slow dance to some Sinatra (or just listen to classical music)…whatever, as long as we just hang out and relax. I’m sure his hectic schedule is exhausting, and some peace and quite is all he needs.
5. What color are Went’s eyes?
Went’s eyes are hazel, but one of them is green. It reminds me of my dad and brother, Jeff. My dad has one black and one brown eye. And Jeff, has one grey and one blue eye. Weird ha?
6. What would you do with one night with Wentworth?
Hum…one night with Wentworth….what would I do?
Considering I’m a romantic (and I hear Went is too), I would spend the night-in, simply getting to know one another. He knows absolutely nothing about me and although he is in like a zillion interviews, articles, etc, I don’t know a whole lot about his fears, dreams, future plans, his family, were both Lebanese (well he’s got Lebanese in him), so that would be a cool topic to talk about, etc.
I would want to get to know him, as I would expect he would want to get to know me.
I’m not just a fan! I’m a person that has a lot to offer (looks, brains, personality, etc.), and he would be impressed by that. And he is not just an actor (that’s just his profession)! After all he is a human being just like the rest of us, only blessed with a talent for acting and being famous. I am already impressed with Went’s ambition, determination, intelligence, and mannerisms, so I’d love to get to know that side (and other sides) of him in person.
He loves pizza, and so do I, so pizza would be on the menu for sure. This probably sounds all weird (having alcohol with pizza), but yes, alcohol would be involved too. I pretty easy to talk to and I don’t tend to get nervous easily (I think of myself as a secure and confident women), but I mean it’s Wentworth, I know I’d be a little nervous, so I would need a martini or two, just to relax me a bit. I’m almost sure Went is not a martini drinker, so we’d have to get him some beers or something.
I would hope it’s in the winter, I’d love to do some major cuddling with Went near the fireplace (or without, maybe a little blanket we can both share…notice the word little).
I know he’s also very much into scary movies, and I am the biggest scary cat (I don’t watch them), but maybe I’ll give it a shot when I can smoother myself into Went’s chest. But he likes comedies too, and I love comedy’s so that would be another option for a movie pick. But who needs a movie, when enticing conversation is available. Can’t think of a topic to talk about, a board game would solve that problem. They are great ice-breakers and conversation starters, and their loads of laughs.
Well you pretty much get the idea…so much for dreaming…hey you never know, he says he wants a sweet girl, and I am the SWEETEST. A girl can dream, right? lol
