The b5media Flyers

I love the fact that b5media is made up of real people. Some of those are close enough to where I live that I get to meet them. The first of those is Tim Flight who, ironically writes our Flightnest blog (I’m sure that joke gets old for him).

Last Saturday, he flew out to an airfield in a ‘town’ about 20 minutes from where I live and we went for a flight. My first ever trip in a truly small airplane, and I have to say that I now understand why it’s totally addictive. Tim let me fly the plane for 5 or 10 minutes and it was completely exhilirating. A whole lot of fun.

Not so fun? The sense of flying sideways on takeoff and landing. Tim assured me it was perfectly normal and that he “never even feels it anymore”… Which didn’t really help!

Still, what an amazing trip. Tim’s a great guy, and it’s a huge amount of fun putting faces and experiences to names and blogs.

Here’s a picture of us, post-flight (yes, that’s my knees still shaking!):

That was fun Jeremy, let’s do it again sometime! For those who know something about flying, the “sideways” flying was the result of the gusty crosswind we had that day. The “crab” (maneuver while approaching a runway with a large crosswind) was quite noticeable and feels awkward, but gets you to the runway in the safest manner.

Blue Skies!
