OK, so all the net’s buzzing about Google’s new Co-op search product, so we really haven’t got much to add to what’s already been said, however it’s given b5media the opportunity for the first time to combine search across all our blogs, something certainly we’d been planning for the future, however today, thanks to the good folks at Google, something we can literally set up in a matter of minutes. And hence it’s my pleasure to announce the b5media search engine. OK, so it’s a seperate page, but there’s no need to visit it, we’ve implemented it right here in the top right hand corner here on the b5media.com page…and following in this post. Congrats to Google on a great new product, and search away! :-)

[…] A post up today by Duncan Riley on the main b5media site announces that Google has just saved the team some time by developing their Google Custom Search tool. […]
This is great! FYI, it’s also super-easy to add the b5media search into the custom search drop-down in IE7

Thanks Duncan. You showed us yours - here’s ours :). WAY faster than our Movable Type network search.
What a great idea .. Can I steal it? :D
This needs work .. good concept, but I personally didn’t like the results. Plus, I screwed up - after entering 55 of our sites, I foolishly tried to “preview” and it wiped everything clear and did not save it. So, I re-added all of the over again and saved first. Later, I went into my profile and found out that it actually DID save my first even though I never clicked Finish (warning for others)
I can hereby declare that the Blue Fish Network were the first content network to place a Google search on our site (because I was too lazy to write my own search plugin). Everyone else is just copying us - especially b5media who blatantly stole our ‘top right’ positioning. And if you think moving the search button changes it? :)
HART: It’s OK for a start. It doesn’t pick everything up and I am still inclined to add my own custom system, but it’s pretty good, and saves load on my server.
I wish I could make a subset: for the b5media, technology blogs and implement on thatdamnpc.com
any possibility? I’d like to see one for each subset: Family & relationships, Home & dining, etc.
thanks!
this is great!
what happened to the search feature after your redesign went live… it’s missing now?
I tried to use this but I could not for the life of me get it to work. I got frustrated and gave up figuring I would go back to using it sometime. Seems like a good product.
