Over the next few hours, we’ll beginning a massive overhaul of the b5media website. Ideally, everything will port well and we’ll have no bugs. However, if you stop by and feel a little disoriented, don’t worry too much. Grab a bite to eat and get one of those website auto-refresher doohickeys and watch the magic unfold.
We want to say a huge thank you to Ben Bleikamp (notably from The Ohio State University) who has somehow managed to wade through the many ideas and concepts we were tossing around and managed to come up with a pretty kick-ass design.
I’m sure we’ll have a more introspective post regarding the new design once it’s rolled out, but I wanted everyone to know what was happening tonight.

Nice comment design and layout.
It’s a shame that Ben isn’t going to a real school.. like Indiana University :)
Matt
He did all that work and all you can do is ‘dis his school? Geeze. At least you could have told him he would have been better off going to Michigan. :-)
Well the dust has blown away! Congrats on the new look.
B5media looks awful pretty :) Nice job Ben!
nice work Ben and Aaron
Now if only we could use this template on all of our blogs, we’d have the sexiest network out there :-)
The site looks fabulous! You guys have done a great job.
New site looks awesome!!! Thanks Ben and everyone.
[…] Since funding was announced, we have been aware of the fact that the old b5media website was simply not adequate. Actually, I think, we’ve known that for some time yet our priorities have always been on our bloggers and member blogs. And we haven’t departed from that at all. Earlier this evening, we launched the new b5 website and the feedback we’ve gotten back so far has been very positive. […]
[…] It’s very businesslike and has a professional feel to it. Designed by Ben Bleikamp (according to The Blog Herald), the page delivers all the right buttons to click and has a lot of white space which makes it easy on the eye. […]
It does look amazing. You guys did an amazing job!
Once again, us Ohioans rule. Nice new look. Oh yeah, and Michigan sucks! :0
I think it’s an improvement! however, you should take a look at the Sports section in the sidebar - sites taking up two lines in I.E.v7 is mushing up and overlaying. Fyi.
Great work Ben… I love this design. It looks about seventy three million times better than the last version :)
Awesome job guys :)
Very nice Ben. Smart, simple, and elegant. Exlcellent execution, Aaron. It’s roomy and easy on the eyes.
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the design :) And go Buckeyes.
Nicely done
You should maybe add a description (to the text hotlink) and picture (maybe alongside) to each site in the blogroll.
Fantabulous job guys! :)
Go Wolverines.
This new design ROCKS!!!
Nice work guys, looks clean and sober.
Great new look guys & gals!
I have to live in the Buckeye state. I figured b5 was the one place I could go to get away from all the hype. I was wrong. :( Go Illini! (Yeah, yeah, I don’t want to hear it. You know we scared you yesterday. Besides, basketball season is coming….) Oh yeah, great job on the design here. I can deal with the gray as long as there’s no scarlet. ;)
i think the redesign looks a WHOLE lot more professional, but from a reader’s standpoint i don’t know if it solves some of the problems that a content network like yours has. an avid b5 blog reader still can’t read all the posts from your site at one central location, can’t get directly to a category and read the entries from that, or subscribe to some type of meta feed from that channel. i subscribe individually to 7 b5media blogs (go cellphone9!!!) but i’d really like to see you guys get with the whole web 2.0 thing and start using the web and your sites for more intteractivity. this new site is big leap from the old one, but IMO it still has a long way to go to successfully deliver content to users the way they want it delivered..
I’m very impressed with the makeover - nice and clean and as Liz said, very easy on the eyes.
Kudos to all the gang for a job well done.
I’m getting two errors on every page using IE6 on WinXP SP2 (don’t laugh - it’s the only browser allowed by my state agency. Heck we only upgraded to SP2 last month - pity me if anything)
I’m getting the following:
“rsp is null or not an object” on line 30 which is
if (rsp.getAttribute(’stat’) == ‘ok’) {
and then I’m getting “object required” on line 86 which is
channel_index = get_channel_pos.firstChild.nodeValue;
In a word … sweet.
Great job, everyone. We at Know More Media applaud your progress!
Nice stuff, excellent use of space and you’ve crammed a lot into a small space without it feeling cluttered.
Yup, job’s a good un!!
[…] Now that the dust has settled, I’d like to introduce one of the newest members of the b5media Science and Health Channel. Angela White is a former lawyer, currently breastfeeding mother who’s writing Breastfeeding 1-2-3: breastfeeding information, support, and news. […]
This is gorgeous work. Are you available for hire, Ben?
[…] the past eight months, the tech team at b5media has accomplished amazing things. We created a new corporate website in under 2 weeks. We’ve figured out how to fix problems of scaling. We’ve created internal tools for our […]
