Who are you? My name is Melissa Petri and I am one of b5media’s travel bloggers. I will be blogging about Traveling Europe on a Budget over at Europe String.

Are you qualified to blog about travel? Architecture may have been my initial vocation but I have earned my PhD in packing light and choosing the best hotels through years of practice. I am an expatriate in Germany; and count the USA, HongKong, China and Korea in my adoptive land list. Now that I have grown roots in Frankfurt, I have yet to give up my semi-nomadic life as I continue to traipse around the world for business and leisure.
I travel around 25-30x per year.
I also travel blog for 9rules/fine fools (escapeblog), Creative-Weblogging (wandalust and flyaway-weblog), KnowMoreMedia (RoadGladiator) and BootsnAll/Logue It (travel gadgets). I also blog about parenting over at dotMOMs and Creative-Weblogging and dabble a bit onVoIP over at PinoyTechBlog.
I am the editor and founder of PINOYexpats, an ezine for Filipino Expatriates. And one of the founders of Bayanihan Blog Network, the first Filipino blog network.
How are your researches made? Since I am constantly on the go, 90% of my updates are/will be researched first-hand. I have been known to go in restaurants and hotels to interrogate their staff. I have also been known to listen to other tourists in cafès, trying to glean more insider information from unsuspecting travel resources. Chutzpah and wanderlust go hand-in-hand to fill my head with information to share. Of course, it helps a lot that I belong to the corporate world which allows me to charge almost everything as “expenses” and which sends me to numerous junkets all over the world.
Any other personal information we might be interested in? I work as a full-time numerical analyst. I am also mother to JP and babyM, and wife to J.
I am from a family of scuba divers (parents, all siblings and husband). In addition, my husband and I are avid snowboarders and mountain bikers. At night (from 10pm-1am), I let my wings out and blog while everyone else snores the night away.
