< << Here I am!
Hi there. I’m Kristen King, and I took over the b5media network’s Lively Women on January 1, 2007. I also co-blog at the new blog for women and business, Biz Chicks Rule, which launched in October 2007, with awesome b5er Bridget Wright.
Writing is who I am and what I do, both for fun and for a living. I started my own freelance writing and editing business in June 2004, a month after I graduated from college, and went full time with it on May 1, 2006.
Lively Women
I’m no doctor, but I care about women’s health and wellness, and I hope that through Lively Women I’ll be able to help you make better-educated health choices by highlighting information that may affect your life while giving you something to think about and, if we’re lucky, amusing you from time to time as well.
Biz Chicks Rule
I might be young, but I have a lot of experience, and I share it at Biz Chicks Rule. I’ve worked in child care, food service, and publishing. I’ve commuted, completed a masters degree while working, and cried every two weeks when I got my paycheck after the government took a big chunk out of it. Now, I run my own business. My parents are both self-employed, so we had to know that working for someone else wasn’t going to last long!
Back to Me
I’m a girl who wears a lot of hats. Well, figuratively, that is — I don’t look so great in real hats. Plus, my head is kind of big, so they’re pretty uncomfortable. But, I digress.
What I mean to say is this: I’m a writer. I’m an editor. I’m a daughter, a sister, and a wife. I have three cats and three dogs, two of whom outweigh me and one who thinks she does. My husband and I moved from a too-small townhouse out to the country in March 2007 and are still adjusting to nature sounds (though as a former farm girl, I shouldn’t be having this much trouble adjusting!).
I’m a terrible guitar player, but I don’t care. Seven years of piano lessons did nothing to improve my sight-reading skills, but I can sing like nobody’s business. (And a side note: I just bought a used piano in the hopes of actually being able to play eventually.)
My favorite editing moment is the night I found a typo in the disclaimer at the end of American Idol (which I looooooove!), e-mailed FOX to tell them about it, and got an e-mail back from one of the producers less than two hours later, thanking me. (And in case you’re wondering, it was fixed by the results show the next night.) I’m addicted to So You Think You Can Dance, and I love my new Wii.
This is me. This is my life. Welcome.
