I’m Joe Ruiz, the blog editor at LadiesCourt, your destination for women’s basketball news and analysis.
I live in San Antonio, Texas, where I’m making my living as a journalist, albeit in a much different fashion than I thought I’d be doing so two years ago. I’ve been doing this in some fashion for more than half of my life, whether it be newspaper, online, TV or radio. If it can be written or spoken about, I’ve had a taste of doing it, including working as a police and courts reporter for a daily newspaper prior to moving back to San Antonio. I’ve also worked as a sports reporter for various outlets, which you’ll read about in the next graf.
Outside of the blogosphere, I am the news editor for KSAT.com, the partner Web site of KSAT 12 (the ABC affiliate in San Antonio), all via Internet Broadcasting. Previously, I have worked as a correspondent for the San Antonio Express-News and Prime Time Newspapers. I’ve also worked for the San Angelo Standard-Times and served on the editorial board in various positions at The University Star at Texas State University-San Marcos.
This is my first main blog work and I’m really happy to get that chance by working with b5media. I’ve previously worked in an online setting covering the Seattle Mariners minor-league system for a now defunct Web site and I was a brief contributor to another blog focusing on the economic of sports (which you can find on my blogroll at LadiesCourt).
Even outside the conventional realm of journalism, I still work as a MoJo for myself and my various companies by staying prepared for most any story that might break out around me.
As a sports fan, I’ve found myself with a newfound respect for women’s basketball. As a fan of the game, I find the fundamentals live on and the competition is just as intense as their male counterparts. I hope to capture all that I can about women’s basketball from around the world and I hope you’ll join me, enjoy the writing and weigh in with your own thoughts.
I enjoy conversing and hope you’ll reach me with thoughts and questions at joe.ruiz@b5media.com.
