Ah, the obligatory “about me” post. Like other bloggers, I kinda hate this part, so I’ll keep it brief: My name is Jillian Cohan. I’m a New England native (born in Vermont, land of Ben and Jerry’s and civil unions) recently transplanted to the Midwest (land of beef cattle and Bob Dole). In the ’90s, I studied English literature at a liberal-arts college in western Massachusetts. After working in magazines for a few years, I earned a master’s degree in journalism from a university in central New York (don’t call it upstate — the locals will get mad). I’ve also lived in Boston and southern Pennsylvania. I moved to Kansas in 2005.
In my career as an old-media journalist, I’ve been an editor at an alternative teen magazine, a fr
eelance features writer and a newspaper reporter covering live music and, most recently, education. I’m also a guilty-pleasure TV junkie (seriously, the DVR is chock full ‘o Gossip Girl, ANTM, The Hills and the like). When I’m not watching the fluffiest of the fluffy programs, Showtime original series are my favorite shows, thanks to their sharp writing and dark humor. I’m thrilled to be hooked up with b5media, where I’ll be blogging at you from Showtimefan.com. Drop by and share your thoughts if, like me, you can’t get enough of the disturbed yet thrilling characters on Dexter, Meadowlands, Weeds and their network cousins.
If you find my profile so scintillating that you want to know more, check out this Q&A from 2006. The hairdo’s different; the brain underneath isn’t.
