Akismet: One Month In

Just over a month ago we announced that we’d purchased an Akismet Enterprise license, to protect our 120+ blogs against spam. Some people had voiced concern, because Akismet has typically been known for having some minor issues with false positives.
One month in, and here’s where we sit.
Spam blocked: 230,430
Missed spam: 256
False positives: ~120
While 120 might […]

The Power of Co-Branded Blogs

Whoo. It’s taken nearly 4 months, but we’re now able to unveil the first steps in a new partnership that we at b5 are very, very excited about. Before we get into that, though, we want to talk about what we see happening in the “blog media” space and how this news relates to it.
Background
Blog […]

b5media / 9rules Podcast

After yesterday’s … fun, Tyme and I got together for a little podcast (nearly 90 minutes). Feel free to skip this if you missed yesterday’s “stuff”. If you happened to catch it, though, feel free to listen :)

Benefits of Blog Networks

The 9rules gang has been out in full force these last few weeks, effectively lambasting everything that doesn’t shake their booty the same way they do. This has manifested itself at numerous blogs, with the central line being: “Why would a professional blogger want to own the house and not the land?”
Obviously this is overly […]

The Truth About b5media

Last week Know More Media (a business focussed blog network) asked me to write a piece on blog networks. Which I did. I called it The Truth About Blog Networks, largely because I felt there were some pink elephants in the room. Pink elephants that we here at b5 haven’t talked about, largely because we’ve […]

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone, from b5media. It’s been a great year here at b5media. The best part? Getting to know our little family of bloggers.
‘Tis the season to be spending time with families, relaxing and enjoying the weather. Which is why this post’ll be a nice short “wishing you all well”.
Have a great long weekend!

Season’s Greetings from b5media

Well it’s Christmas Day here in Australia and I thought I’d take this little lull in between family gatherings to wish b5media bloggers, readers and partners a happy and safe Christmas.
I’m looking forward to a great year in 2006 at b5media but in the mean time - it’s time for a little R and R, […]

Blog Network List

The idea of starting sites largely to watch what’s going on in blogging isn’t a new one, however it was only recently (shortly after b5 launched which, I’m sure, was a coincidence) that there have been sites created just to watch blog networks.
Personally I think this is cool, because it allows me to keep up […]

Ingrid Loses Her Mind

I had always known Ingrid was fragile. But never in my wildest nightmares did I think that her psychotic break would happen so early in her b5media career.
Her recent, uh, adventures with her box left me in stitches.
I placed it down in the middle of the living room, and welcomed it to my home. At […]

Why b5media Matters to Me

I just returned from AdTech, which was a lot of fun. Met some great people that I “knew” but hadn’t yet “met” face to face. The best part was getting to really, really learn about the advertising industry.
The phrase “the right ad to the right person at the right time on the right page” […]
