b5media OPML: Read All About It…

A week or two ago, I was tinkering around with some code for some backend tools we’ve been putting together here at b5media and I got to thinking how cool it would be to have all of b5media’s blogs in one place. No fuss, no muss.

So I smacked together some quick code and knocked out a complete OPML file of all our blogs. Feel free to import it into bloglines or other feed reader and keep up on what we’re doing over here. It’s been run through a number of feed readers including Bloglines and Feedlounge with stellar results.

Enjoy!

be prepared to give up your day job if you plan on reading everything, though :)

I use Bloglines all the time .. I used to use another feed reader and import/export the OPML file all the time between my desktop and laptop .. but honestly .. I’m clueless about Bloglines .. Can you give a quick tutorial in the comments here how to import?

(although, I probably have about 75% of your feeds already in my Bloglines)..

1. Load up Bloglines
2. Click on the Edit link at the top of the left frame
3. Scroll to the bottom and click on Import Subscriptions
4. Upload the OPML file (that you saved to disk)

That’s it

Thanks Aaron .. that worked!

For Interest of others.. you first have to Right-Click and SAVE TARGET AS .. on the first link in the second paragraph above ..

After you import into Bloglines, you received new folders for each channel and the blogs in there ..

To Aaron .. you might want to modify the outline titles to include “b5media channel - ” or something before the channel name - to keep them close together. I have to edit all the subscriptions now because I’m anal that way and need to keep them organized! :)

Awesome, Aaron! We at Know More Media just recently figured out how to do the same thing - and I really, really wish I had had that in place before I went and added all our feeds into my feedreader one by one!

Looks like I’ll be grabbing this OPML of yours and sifting through it soon :). You have a great network.

ugh Easton .. I just imported yours too now :) Only thing is .. you didn’t even sort them into folders! They’re all over the place now! Oh well .. Editing Subscriptions I go

Yay!! An easy way to see all b5 blogs! Awesome.

I had to fight a little with it to figure out how to use it in Sage, but it seems to be working great.

Glad you all like it. :)

better option than scrolling on the side of the site. or, maybe, I am just lazy.

Anyone know if there’s a way to add sub-folders within Bloglines?

HART (1-800-HART) on May 22nd, 2006 at 10:09

Jason .. When I right click on any page I have the option to subscribe and create new folder names. If you aren’t doing it this way and just using the “Add” button in “My Feed” section, best suggestion is to just create one - then, “Edit Subscription” (right side of page where blog name is” and then where you see “Top Folder” .. scroll down to “New Folder” and create one.

Jason on May 22nd, 2006 at 13:11

I know how to do that, but can you create a folder within a folder in Bloglines? I’m not figuring out how to do that if it is even possible. Thanks.

HART (1-800-HART) on May 22nd, 2006 at 14:33

oh sorry - misunderstood. I have yet to be able to create sub-folders .. If they did, they would have to revamp the ability to edit it though. For instance, I already have a folder of b5media blogs. When I uploaded the OPML file, I have to ‘edit subscription’ for every single one because I can’t figure out a way to mass move all the individual channel blogs into one massive folder. I could have just renamed the folders and group them as received, but I’m anal like that!

Jason on May 22nd, 2006 at 20:02

You can move multiple blogs at once in the Edit window by using SHIFT+CLICK or CTRL+CLICK and dragging into a single blog. Since the OPML file groups them into folders, you still have to do each folder group individually.
