Everyone at b5media wishes all the mothers, mums, moms, mommies, and mummies out there a Very Happy Mother’s Day! Some countries celebrate Mother’s Day at other times so apologies for choosing this more commercial date. Hope it doesn’t confuse anyone like Alan who had a moment of panic when he thought he’d neglected to get his mom a card or gift, forgetting that the Brits had already celebrated Mothering Sunday in March!
Front and center this Mother’s Day is our Family and Relationships Channel where moms are an indispensible part of everyday blogging.
Let’s start at Babylune, Kate Baggott’s blog for mothers recovering from childbirth, where Mother’s Day is very important. Back in March, when Mothering Sunday is celebrated in the UK, Kate thought there should be an international law declaring that mothers around the globe should get to celebrate both observances. Since then, there’s been a virtual soap opera unfolding in the countdown to Mother’s Day.
All Kate wants is breakfast in bed. Unfortunately, her oldest child is just three years-old. So, after explaining the concept to her son, deciding against scrambled eggs, and seeing how far he could get with pancakes, Kate finally learned the true meaning of Mother’s Day is more than just the opportunity to sleep in and drip coffee all over the sheets.
SP at Weary Parent is probably zonked from cleaning up all those years of stains. But despite all the hard work of parenting, she still remembers some special Mother’s Day moments.
The Dating Dames talk about what kind of men make women want to be mothers. Badboys who want to be mothered themselves or men who will assume the responsibility of fathering instead?
Jean at Inside Motherhood isn’t super-excited about Mother’s Day and thinks:
…if you appreciate and honour your mother/father/kids/teachers, you should do it every day of your life, and not just on that one special day.
But if you still want to get your mom a gift or need to get another (and mothers could ALWAYS use another present), stop by Thrifty Mommy where Kelly suggests getting your mom a SuperMom action figure or maybe a bracelet that her mom still wears today. Kelly’s hoping for a Mexican meal and a nap today. What about you? (Also a special shout-out to Kelly’s grandmother.)
And if you still need some gift ideas for your mom, Play Library has a list of ideas ranging from beautiful clothing and accessories to practical items like cordless glue guns.
Other b5media blogs are celebrating Mother’s Day too!
Stitchers all over are proudly giving their moms a beautifully finished memento today. But not Deb at Tangled Thread who’s more busy adding projects to her stash than stitching for her mom. Just kidding, Deb! ;) But I am drooling over all the gorgeous stitching projects she mentioned.
And stitching is a great way to pass time while traveling. If your mom’s not a stitcher, though, Mary Jo at Fly Away Cafe has some other gift ideas for mothers who travel.
Perfect timing if you’re planning a trip for mom to go on her own or with the whole family. Ruth at Let’s Visit Asia has some vacation suggestions for exotic locales in Asia.
Many times, moms aren’t traveling for fun, they have to travel for work. Kim at Blogfabulous raises the glass to moms today with a special thought for her mom who worked two jobs at a time not to mention the job she did at home.
Mothers don’t just work, travel and stitch, though, they’re also good at forcing us to do stuff that we only begin to appreciate years down the line. Tammy of The 80s Club thanks her mom for insisting that she take typing and shorthand which led the way to her writing career.
And to show her appreciation, Tammy, who also writes Jewelry & Beading, is lucky that she can make her mom gorgeous jewelry like this elastic bracelet. easy bead fringe earrings, or some bling using mother of pearl.
A glittering piece of jewelry would enhance every mom’s beauty including our special celebrity guest mom, Jodi Pliszka of American Inventor, who’s featured in a three-part interview at Cory’s Baldiness blog. Stay tuned for a guest post from Jodi today.
Regardless of what you decide to do this Mother’s Day. May you enjoy a special little something to eat either out at a restaurant or at home. I share a picture of my (un)heart-healthy Mother’s Day brunch at A Hearty Life and Tracey at Foodie Obsessed has some menu ideas for a Mother’s Day Feast that sound deeeelicious. Is all of b5media invited, Tracey?
Once again, from all of us at b5media to all mothers everywhere, Happy Mother’s Day!
Update: Some lovely additions from Mary Emma. At Quilting and Patchwork, she thanks her mom for being the impetus to her quilting career. And at Alzheimer’s Notes, she recalls bittersweet memories of her mother in a nursing home.
Kristina at Autism Vox discusses the many roles mothers of autistic children must play and some of the guilt they bear.
Our other Christina at eBeautyDaily gave her mother some perfume for Mother’s Day. Did you give your mom some fabulous fragrance or cosmetics too?

Regardless of what country you are in though, happy mother’s day to all the mums/moms out there.
Surely one day a year isn’t enough for them anyway :-)
Thank you Hsien for including Blog Fabulous. And thanks to all the Moms out there for doing what you do every single day.

BTW, you should show your mom your comment. She’d be so happy.
Kim: Thanks for participating, Kim!
Wow Hsien, you did a fantabulous job with this Mother’s Day post! Congrats! :)
I know my Mother’s Day postings were more somber but I very much appreciated the comments I got from autistic adults whose parents had been “blamed” for their being autistic.
Is that you, Kristina? I’ve added your Mother’s Day post. :)
I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day, no matter what country you live in. I got my Mexican food and a nap. My DH is the best!
[…] We have network-wide celebrations with B5 Media. For Mothers’ Day, all of us wrote our entries to honour the brave and selfless women who take on the task of rearing and/or raising children every day. There’s a similar plan in the works to observe Fathers’ Day a week from Sunday (Fathers’ Day is the 18th in the US and Canada). I’ve been thinking about how to mark the event in a blog I write for new mothers recovering from childbirth. […]
