From the moment people began to find out about b5media we’ve been getting regular emails from bloggers asking how they can blog for us.
We’re really excited that so many want to join us at the ground level of b5 and are doing everything we possibly can to bring along as many people as we can on the ride. Our ideas and goals are big and we know they’ll only be achieved through a lot of hard work by not only ourselves but a great team.
Now that we’re officially launched we’re looking for more bloggers to join in the fun.
I’ll explain how you can join us at the end of this post - but first let me talk a little about who we’re looking for.
Who are we looking for?
b5 media will only ever be as good as its bloggers. We want to name this up front as a foundational belief that we all have. It’s not just an airy fairy statement that we’re bandying around to make us look good - it’s something we strongly believe.
So speaking quite generally we want great people to join us.
You don’t necessarily have to have a lot of experience with blogging (we already have one blogger with us who has never blogged before) but there are a number of characteristics that will attract us to you if you’re thinking of applying.
- Self Starters - b5 is new. We want people who are willing to work within our boundaries and policies but who have the ability to take the ball and run with it.
- Willingness to Work Hard & Have Fun - if there is one thing that we’ve learned in our time as bloggers is that b5 will be built on the back of hard work. If you’re looking for easy money this is probably not the job for you. That said, the work will also be fun, so we need people who can balance hard work with good times!
- Passionate people with Expertise in their Field - while we have a desire to make money from b5 and to share it with our bloggers - it’s not the starting place for deciding whether a blog is right for our network or not. The starting point is passion for a topic. Don’t just pitch us you as a potential blogger - pitch us the blog that you’d love to write for b5. Pick a topic that you know something about, that you know you can sustain with content over the long term and that you think others will be passionate about as well.
- Creative - Have you noticed that there are quite a few blogs around at the moment? The studies say that one is being started every second - we want people who don’t get depressed by this but who see it as a creative challenge. People who are willing to think outside the box and rise above the clutter of the blogosphere.
- Ability to work in a team - we’re a team at our core, Duncan, Jeremy and Darren - we like each other and enjoy our work. We want to create an enjoyable work environment where people not only work hard but work together. Part of our commitment to our bloggers is to do what we can to make them better bloggers (both on our blogs and their own projects) but this will be so much easier if you’re willing to play on a similar level. We don’t really want lone players - we want people willing to share what they know, who are open to learn and who can work with all of the people who are part of b5.
- Quality Writers - notice we are not just looking for bloggers here. While knowledge of and experience with blogging can be an advantage we’re not locking ourselves into just taking on bloggers. We DO want quality communicators to run our blogs and would like to see some examples of your writing style and tone as part of your application.
So how do you join?
Here’s what we’re suggesting you do:
- Have a read of the draft contract that Jeremy wrote a week or so back and see how it sits with you. You might also be interested in reading 3 posts that Jeremy , Duncan and I (Darren) have written about our vision, hopes and dreams of b5. We don’t want to waste your time unless we’re on the same page.
- Open an email client and add darren at b5media.com to the address field
- Tell us the following basic informationYour Name:
Country/Location:
Blog URL/s: (you don’t need to have one already but it would be great to see examples of your work)
Topics that you’d love to write about:
Relevant Experience: (tell us about what you do, how long you’ve been doing it and any skills that you might be able to bring to your blogs)
Examples of your writing: (you can either point us to a URL/s or include a short post in the email. Try to keep it to 200 words or so and on a topic that you’re interested in).
- Send your email.
- Don’t put your life on hold for us.
Unfortunately due to the large number of interested parties and by the fact that we’re starting small (ish) we can’t accept everyone who expresses interest and will need to have some sort of filtering process. The process once you’ve sent us your application is for us to begin to look through the submissions and attempt to make sense of it all.
Once we sort through applications we’ll start approaching the bloggers who we resonate with and see potential to work with to begin talking about how we might move forward.
We can’t promise to take on everyone who applies and while we will endeavour to get back to everyone we can’t promise detailed or quick responses, but we’ll do our best. Every application will be kept on our books and we’ll use this list as we consider new future projects.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Blog Networks
I like the idea of blog networks. I really like what 9rules is doing. I like how they work, and if I don’t join a blog nework, I might just start my own. So when the b5media announced that it…
First of all, congratulations on this exciting endeavour! I really like the philosophy and the global outlook that b5media has. Just a quick question, Are you moslty looking for new blogs, or are you also looking for writers to add to blogs that have already been launched? I, for instance, would love to write for a blog such as Literally Blogging. I took a look at your draft contract and that seems to imply that you’re mainly a network of blog ‘owners’. Am I correct in that assumption?
[…] More details are available on the b5media blog here. The network is still officially in beta with work still being done on templates (we are working with Peter Flaschner from the Blog Studio who has designed the logo and the template currently running on the b5media blog) and other bug fixes, but its all go at this stage. If you’re interested in writing for the network details are available here. […]

b5media launched
I’ve been quiet of late because I’m working on some new projects and finishing up some old ones. The emerging church research I’ve been doing for three local denominations finishes up in a couple of weeks and today we…

Very, very nice…. where do i sign….
[…] b5media is a little different to this in that we’re not asking bloggers to apply to join us with their existing blogs - rather we’re asking for bloggers to pitch us ideas for blogs that they’d like to write on. […]
The first thing you say “We want people who are willing to work within our boundaries and policies..”
That’s the last thing the blogosphere is about. I just can’t see this working.
PF: But, what are those boundaries and policies? Have fun, be passionate and be authoritative? I think we’re being fairly loose on them. This is about writing something you love, and hopefully making some decent money at it.
Btw, I’m honoured that you stopped by!
Good luck, you guys.
I wish you good fortune in sorting thru the 1,000,000 applications that you will get.
I don’t doubt that EVERYONE will want to be a part of this.
BTW - this page and your logo are both VERY well done.
Can I steal Darren’s post for future use ? This is about as good as it gets for a casting call !
good point Piers - ‘boundaries and policies’ - maybe the wrong words to use as they sound terribly official and formal.
I guess all I was trying to express is that we’re trying to develop a system here where everyone knows where they stand yet where things are flexible enoug h to emergy and evolve.
It’s like soccer (or any sport) - there are rules and boundaries - not to restrict the players from having fun or being great players - but to enable everyone to play the same game in a way that allows everyone to strive to play at their peak.
Hi Darren, Jeremy and Duncan,
The design and feel looks great ! Congrats on your launch.
Good luck with the network, I’m already enjoying She Knows Best.
I’m looking forward to what Peter comes up with for the other blogs! Not sure if I like the logo yet - I don’t get it, 5 bands? - but this design is nice and clean.
Network needs a slogan…
Whoever wrote this post did it right! Much better :)
Another sweatshop blog network emerges
These blogging networks are great — for the owners. These guys should have called this B.0 Media instead of b5media.
How many gullible, desperate writers are there out there that will take sweatshop work rates, just to be part of something? Sor…
