b5media / 9rules Podcast

After yesterday’s … fun, Tyme and I got together for a little podcast (nearly 90 minutes). Feel free to skip this if you missed yesterday’s “stuff”. If you happened to catch it, though, feel free to listen :)

Jeremy,
The whole comment about BlogMedia leaves a little question in my head.

What are you refering to?

I don’t think it had to do with lack of traffic, or revenue, or unhappiness. Truth of the matter was. The “breakup” of BlogMedia had solely to do with decisions I made personally in regards to my health, and time management.

Just an fyi.

Jeremy Wright on June 14th, 2006 at 16:40

I barely remember the comment about BlogMedia. The point was that running a blog network is hard. Period. If that’s not why you broke up, cool :)

David Krug on June 14th, 2006 at 16:54

Definetly not why “we broke up” in fact I’m still active on numerous fronts with blogging. Just in a more controlled environment with less managing other people and more managing just me and my ideas. Much better. I can deal with hard. Trust me. I had to actually listen to that 45 minute or however long podcast on 9rules/b5 that was hard. Also hard managing a team of passionate bloggers. This is hard. Keeping people happy isn’t hard. Keeping me happy. That’s a whole nother can of worms.

Keep up the good work at b5. I have a few ideas for you if you’d like.

Well, at least we’ve all learned something valuable from this podcast .. (besides what feedburner does, what an adblocker blocks, and the breakup of BlogMedia..)

>> That both people must be at the same equa-distance from the microphones when talking. And, when you start laughing - please move AWAY from the microphone .. than closer to it and hit it.

EVERYBODY! WARNING! Don’t Listen to this when the Wife or babies or puppies are sleeping! You’ll Wake ‘em Up!

I didn’t get a chance to listen to the whole thing due to getting home at 1am this morning, but the brief comment about BlogMedia was incorrect. David’s comment up above is a far more accurate description of the situation - and David, Chris, Ben, and I still talk regularly about our various ventures.

I don’t get it. Why couldn’t Tyme figure out that SHE turns off ads in her own browser? This podcast was icredibly long, particularly for reasons like Tyme showing how short her bus is.

Jeremy Wright on June 15th, 2006 at 07:44

Max, sorry you found it long. Really this podcast wasn’t for listeners. It was for the people chatting, and those they represented.

Think of it like hearing the negotiations between the US and Iran, only we’re not quite as polite or well-spoken ;-)

This was entertaining and educational. I learned quite a bit about the inner workings of blog networks and issues relating to it.

Jeremy, I was very impressed with your ability to fan the flames and to just explain how things actually were. You weren’t on the offensive or defense all the time–you were just open and I have a lot of respect for that.

Couple of things, yes, I agree, it was a bit long, but I think the conversational tone set that.

And yes, I found it bizarre that Tyme was complaining about the ad blocker :-)

Jason on June 15th, 2006 at 22:06

The podcast was longer than your average podcast I guess, but I think that’s fine. It was impromptu and they covered all the items they needed. Regarding the Ad Blocking complained about by Tyme were secondary, I was so impressed with Jeremy’s response to not circumventing a user’s goal and request of not seeing ads. I thought that was very impressive and just another item that makes me proud to be a b5 blogger.

It was long indeed but was fine coz I listened to it while watching a jet lee movie and eating salad. :)

I think I missed some parts but I did not miss soccerati being mentioned over the chat. :)

Yes. This podcast is long. And I was wondering when my name would crop up after the whole Paul (9rules) fiasco. Luckily I used toothpicks on my eyelids and heard my name on the 70th minute. I’d like to thanks Jeremy for sticking it out for me.

Separate Feed Stats with AWStats

A bit more than a month ago I was listening to a podcast between Jeremy Wright and Tyme talking about blog networks. During the conversation the topic of feed statistics came up. Jeremy astutely mentioned how most website statistics programs count a &#…
