Applicant Tips

update: before you read this you should know that due to overwhelming numbers of applications we’ve temporarily closed down our application process. Keep an eye on this blog in the first few months in 2006 for when we reopen. Thanks for your patience.

Just a few tips for those considering apply to be a part of b5media. We’ve been wading through the applications and thought we’d give a few hints as to how you can make your application have an increased chance of hitting the mark. Here’s what we’re looking for.

Follow the process outlined in the initial call for bloggers which is:

  1. Open an email client and add darren@b5media.com to the address field
  2. Tell us the following basic information

    Your Name:
    Country/Location:
Blog URL/s: (you don’t need to have one already but it would be great to see examples of your work)
Topics that you’d love to write about:
Relevant Experience: (tell us about what you do, how long you’ve been doing it and any skills that you might be able to bring to your blogs)
Examples of your writing: (you can either point us to a URL/s or include a short post in the email. Try to keep it to 200 words or so and on a topic that you’re interested in).

  3. Send your email.
  4. Don’t put your life on hold for us.

In other words:

- keep it brief but informative.
- the ‘topics that you’d love to write about’ is pretty important. We’re looking for you to pitch us your ideas for blogs. If they are not advanced ideas then that is ok - but we would like you to identify a niche (or niches) that you’d love to blog on rather than just to say that you’d like to blog on a general or wide range of topics.
- be aware that what you write is an example of your writing ability in and of itself

Having said that - if you’ve applied already and havn’t followed this process completely don’t stress - we’re considering everyone, but these tips will help anyone in future.

[…] How can someone join b5media and what is the selection process? We’re very upfront about both our selection process (http://www.b5media.com/applicant-tips/) and our contract (http://www.b5media.com/b5medias-blogger-contracts/). The inside information is that we want people with passion, an ability to write and ideas. We can teach you to blog, we can teach you how to work with the software, we can build the traffic for you. But what we can’t teach is passion, personality and the ability to hold an audience. The more of that “special something” you have, the better. […]
