Akismet: One Month In

Just over a month ago we announced that we’d purchased an Akismet Enterprise license, to protect our 120+ blogs against spam. Some people had voiced concern, because Akismet has typically been known for having some minor issues with false positives.

One month in, and here’s where we sit.

Spam blocked: 230,430
Missed spam: 256
False positives: ~120

While 120 might seem like a lot, that’s just an average of 1 per blog per month. And considering each blog is dealing with on average 2,000 less spam comments per month it’s not a bad deal.

In short, we’re very, very, very, very happy with Akismet, and hope that our small contribution to the company helps it go from strength to strength. While we won’t argue that others have false positive issues, the current overall effectiveness rating of about 99.997% ain’t bad at all.

So thanks to Matt and the team for a great purchase, and a flexible licensing agreement!

Akismet has been wonderful for our 70-plus blogs as well. Congratulations on finding such an effective tool! - Easton from Know More Media

I think it has done a good job so far. Although there were some legitimate comments caught, all in all its pretty impressive.
