Akismet at b5media

We’re very happy to announce that b5media has snagged an Akismet Enterprise License to protect all of our blogs from comment spam. As Duncan noted on his blog, we’ve been looking to do this for at least a couple of months, but other things were just priorities.

Now that we’ve slowed our launch of new blogs and started some new development projects, we’re finally able to take care of some really nice things like this. We should probably talk more about some of the behind-the-scenes changes we’ve been doing (including automated Wordpress installations, a new backend & payment system, etc) we’ve just been so busy doing that we’ve forgotten to talk about what’s going on, what we’re seeing and why.

While I can’t promise things’ll change here at the main b5 blog in the short term, this is something that is increasingly becoming a priority to us.

Today’s news, though, is great news. Less comment spam. Less work for our bloggers. Less work for our Channel Editors and less stress overall. And that is totally worth $200/month.

Update: David from BloggingPro goes more indepth and gets some more of the background on this decision. Thanks David!

As b5 Media’s Tech Channel Editor I’d like to publicy state that I’m uber-impressed that we’ve gone what I would consider to be the “extra mile” here. Having Akismet available to our bloggers is the absolute freakin’ bomb and this move is one of the many reasons why I choose to burn up my incredibly valuable time working with b5.

Know More Media got Aksimet right around the time you did - and it’s sooooooo sweet to me. MUCH better than the previous spam filter. We’re not as large as b5, but we do have several dozen blogs of our own and we were wading through a copious amount of spam too - but Akismet has reduced the flood to a mere trickle.

Now if only Akismet knew how to answer ALL comments in an intelligent fashion … come to think of it, they ought to make it capable of doing our blogging for us :).

Congratulations, b5ers.

Yeah, it’s probably stopped 20,000 comment spam attempts since we installed it last week. Craziness.

Hi, just hat’s off to B5media for this great work!!

If these type of buld spamming commnets can be prevented, it will be a really profitable story for all.

Best Of Luck.

[…] Folks, please, be thankful that b5media installed Akismet in June and your eyes don’t have to see this garbage. Unfortunately it gets stored in such a way that we have to delete it therefore we have to see it despite not wanting to see it. […]
