Meet Liberty, our delightful writer at Snarkstress (and several other blogs, read more to find out!):
1. How about a quick and dirty rundown of your life and family…
This June I’ll be celebrating 10 years of marital bliss…or something like that. Nah, really, we are truly happy and have two awesome boys, ages 4 and almost 7. Life’s crazy, but oh-so-fun.
2. Tell us about your passion for bad fashion…
Bad fashion is crazy fun. And there seem to be so many celebs that are just dying to make my job as easy as they possibly can. Sure, fashion is all about fun and risks, but sometimes a healthy dose of common sense comes in handy, too. And a disturbing number of people seem to lack this sense…which, of course, is good for me!
3. Is there one designer that everyone looks good in and can avoid the wrath of The Snarkstress?
Actually, people can look good in anything from Wal-Mart specials to Chanel. The key is choosing the right color and cut…and, of course, accessories. And even though it’s not as edgy, a classic, tailored look will NEVER go out of style. It’s all about finding what’s best for YOU…a task a lot of people evidently don’t care to bother with.
4. How do you stay in touch with the pulse of teens?
Teens are just like adults, only younger. They are so much more sophisticated now then even when I was a teen (which wasn’t THAT long ago, ahem). So I write the same types of things for them, just with a younger angle. I read all the hottest teen mags, watch teen-focused shows and movies, shop in “their” stores and read their books. I ADORE Young Adult fiction. Of course, I observe them like mad and tap my baby-sitters for ideas, too.
5. What other blogs do you write?
Here at b5 (my favorite place!) I AM The Snarkstress, write Teen Style Lounge, and also co-blog at Healthbolt. I love all three of these blogs because they tap into different parts of me. I also just signed on to write for a new Teen site, launching soon, and have another exciting project in the works, with details hopefully coming soon.
6. Have you learned any important life lessons while blogging?
Life lessons? Um, hell yeah! Numero uno is time-management. Number 2 is learning to say “no”. Because I work from home, I get guilted into a lot of things that eat into my productivity time. And finally, I am humbled by the number of people who read what I write each day, so I am reminded to put out quality posts (read: be the best I can be) so as not to let any of these gracious people down.
7. What other things in your life are you passionate about?
I am passionate about being Mom and doing all the field trips and school volunteering and stuff. It’s a good reminder of what’s really important in life. I’m also passionate about reading and writing. Truly passionate. Writing is what makes me tick. I love blogging and I love to write fiction - even placed #21 out of 8,119 entries in a short story contest. Besides my fam, writing is my one true love.
8. Do people in your life think you are crazy when you tell them you are a professional blogger?
Crazy? They already know I’m crazy, so my blogging probably wasn’t a shock. Actually, people seem quite enthralled with what I do, especially my hubby’s co-workers. It’s a hoot. After a night with them, I feel like a rock star!
9. What would you be doing if you weren’t blogging?
If I weren’t blogging? I dunno. I can’t even think about that. I’m not ready to re-enter the “real” working world and now I’ll probably never have to. Thank Gawd. That’s damn exciting. So I don’t know what I’d be doing - it’s not an option.
10. If you could be doing anything in the world, what would it be?
If I could be doing anything in the world, I’d be a novelist writing from my front yard on one of Hawaii’s gorgeous beaches. Or I’d be a soap star - on Days of Our Lives. Or MAYBE I’d be a novel-writing soap star! Ah, to dream…
11. Do you have any advice for new fashion bloggers?
To new fashion bloggers, I’d say to take risks, find your own “voice” and make friends in the writing and fashion worlds. This is such a fun and enjoyable job and the more you learn, the easier your “job” is and the MORE fun you’ll have!
The Conversation
Blogging is also fun! It’s a great way to participate on the Internet. Some people watch while others participate.
I love my daily dose of THE Snarkstress. I loved getting to her even more with this interview. *Mwah Dah-Ling*. Save me a glass of your afternoon cocktail :)
Wal-Mart specials, really girl! In any case, great interview - true you through and though, really fun to read. And who knows, maybe one day we will see you on Days :) I think it could happen.
Awesome interview, Libby!
Now if only I could convince you to stop posting pictures of me as a cautionary tale, I could take that black strip off my eyes in public.
Much agreed, Cameron! I would much rather participate than just watch. It’s too hard to keep my opinions to myself! ;)
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. :)
Dexie, you know I’ve got a COUPLE afternoon cocktails with your name on them whenever you’d like, dahling!
*mwah* to you, too!
Jennifer, dahling, if they ever bring the old Shawn back, I’ll be clawing and gnashing for a prime role on Days. When that happens, you’d better take a fine road trip down to sunny LA to visit moi, mm-kay?
*mwah*
The Snarkstress!! I love it. Got to go check out your blogs~
